"The Abduction of the Amgassador's Daughter!" Escape
Under the Forever Sky Being the 13-year-old daughter of the Ambassador to Ethiopia may sound like really fun adventure, but Lucy Hoffman found herself to be smothered by the protection of Marine guards and personal body guards. She wished she could see beyond the high walls that surrounded the American Embassy compound. She longed to be able to explore the Ethiopian wilderness and study the wildlife so near her, but everyone told her it was not safe. She thought knew better. Then, one day when her mother, the Ambassador to Ethiopia, was away, she and a friend made a plan to slip away, out of the compound just to visit the market. What could be dangerous about that? A LOT! Would
she fare any better when she and her Ethiopian friend decided to pull
another fast one on their body guards and go to a local restaurant?
What do you supposed happened when they were discovered and a new driver
picked them up, delivered her friend home, and then ... KIDNAPPED HER?
Where do you think she woke up? What were the two choices she had to
avoid certain death at the hands of the kidnappers or certain death
in the jaws of wild lions? This story is based on a real story and will take you into Ethiopian life and wilderness into an exciting encounter with kidnappers, wild monkeys, and a pride of extremely dangerous lions. Would she be able to survive being without food and water? How would she find her way back to civilization? Go along with her on her Escape Under the Forever Sky. In a world that is growing increasingly small, this book provides geography, cultural studies, ecological studies, and an exciting walk in the shoes of a 13-year girl as she attempts to foil the plans of evil kidnappers and escape through the Ethiopian wilderness. We are disappointed that the author chose to use a four-letter curse word (d_ _ _) several times, but the realism would certainly warrant it. With the millions of word choices available, we believe that literary creativity would have provided better choices. Nevertheless, it is a book we would include in our middle school library. Research
