Moses:
When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom "Every
great dream begins with a dreamer. Reach for the stars to change the
world." Harriet Tubman (1820-1913) Harriet Tubman is born into slavery. She spends all of her life doing the master's bidding. She is about to be sold south, in chains, to work the crops. She will never see her family again. That night, Harriet Tubman turns her eyes toward the skies to talk to God. Harriet asks for His help. He answers her in a whippoorwill's song. "I set the North Star in the heavens and I mean for you to be free." He wraps her in the blanket of night. The next day, she speaks to him while chopping wood, promising Him that she will hold steady to Him. She hears Him whisper in the breeze. "I'm going to see you through, Child." As she begins her journey, she continues to pray. God continues to answer...in the moon's reflection on the creek...cradled in underbrush...in the faces of kind people...in churches along the Underground Railroad. Her journey does not end with her own freedom. God leads her back to show her people the way, like Moses in the Bible, the one chosen by God to free His people in Egypt so many years before.
