DOUBLE DRIBBLE! BOOK 2! The BEST of this basketball duo!

TWIN PLAYERS MEET ON THE SAME TEAM in ATHLETE OR MATHLETEBook 1

Seventh graders Owen and Russell Evans, two gifted fraternal twins, live happily in their family together. Owen is a gifted athlete. Russell wins math and science awards and competes in team games with Masters of the Mind. Each has his own niche.

Tall, passive Russell isn't the least interested in playing basketball and even laughs at his own clumsiness and nerdy appearance.

Short, stocky, aggressive Owen laughs at his lack of academic prowess and would never think of challenging Russell in his problem-solving games.

Both are happy competing in his own niche with his own set of friends, until ... the new Coach sees potential in the tall, gangly twin with glasses and orders him to tryout for basketball (which of course he does not want to do and Owen laughs at the thought). Their dad who loves basketball, however, is super-excited that Russell might get a shot at the team and is willing to go to all lengths to be sure he does well. Their mom enjoys the Masters of the Mind competition, so that leaves Owen standing without a cheerleader. What's his bruised ego to do?

Sibling rivalry begins to smolder and grows into a full-blown fire when, by a Nike miracle, Russell makes the team. Russell's Masters of the Mind teammates fan the flames when they don't want to share their leader. What's Russell to do as the rope in a tug-of-war?

Of course, Owen is sure that Russell will embarrass him. Do you think he's right?

The story is told in the first-person voices of Owen and Russell in alternating chapters so you really can get into their heads and understand their motives, excitement, disappointments, and emotions as if they're your own.

--------------------------------------------------

In DOUBLE DRIBBLE, the second Mathlete vs Athlete Novel by W. C. Mack, the Owen twins face event greater threats, on the court and off.

Have you ever played basketball? If so, you know the fun and excitement of the dribble, the pass, the shot, the swish, and the roar of the crowd. 7th grader Owen Evans lived basketball. It was the most important part of his life, and he was good. Playing with his taller, slimmer, less experienced twin brother Russell, he and the team were on a winning streak. Would the Pioneers be able to continue for the rest of the season? Could anything rock Owen's year?

Perhaps it could. Perhaps it will. How far will Owen go to regain it?

The threat to Owen's leadership walked into the gym one day. It was a new set of 12-year-old twins, tall, athletic, identical twins, who moved to Portland and joined Owen's Pioneer basketball team. But, something was strange about them. They were too good, too focused, too synchronized. Would the coach bench Owen and Russell to start Mitch and Marcus Matthews? What would Owen do if he lost the spotlight?

Russell was less concerned. He liked basketball and being part of the action, but his whole life wasn't on the court. He was part of another team, Masters of the Mind where he could use logic, math, and problem solving to win contests with his teammates.

The story of two sets of twins, fraternal twins Owen and Russell, and identical twins Mitch and Marcus, takes some unexpected terms in DOUBLE DRIBBLE. Told in easy, alternating chapters, first by Owen, then by Russell, the reader can see the action and problems through the eyes and voices of two very different twins. Athlete or Mathlete? Is it possible to be both?

For classroom connections, the 31-page Kids Wings Literature Guide and 53-slide Jeopardy-type interactive game for DOUBLE DRIBBLE will extend the fun, hone reading skills through multiple-choice and short answer questions, stimulate interaction through discussion, inspire problem-solving in logic and crossword puzzles, stimulate character development, and lay the foundation for understanding the importance for balancing athletics with academics. One real challenge will be to determine how the chapter titles represent the events in the chapter!
